The Why – Tutorshub.com.au
Tutorshub.com.au, my contribution to empowering the future generation.
When did Education slip from our priority list? We are placed number 49 out of the 51 developed countries list. Why are we not paying our teachers enough and providing them the support they need? What are countries like Norway and Finland doing that we are not?
My Mother in Law (MIL) is an experienced teacher who sometimes has to give private tutoring to supplement her income. Her passionate for education is contagious. Over the years, I have noticed the challenges she faces in juggling school work, appointments, obtaining new clients, upskilling her private students, and balancing everything else in between.
My sister in law (SIL) has a few years under her belt as a high school teacher and has on various occasions mentioned that majority of the younger teachers have to tutor to support their lifestyle in Sydney. She herself is supplementing her income with tutoring services and facing the same issues.
Besides how underpaid our teachers were, I came to realise both my MIL and SIL are charging the same price for their service, I found this be at odds given my I.T sales experience. From a parent’s perspective how do we know the going rate or if it’s reasonable? Shouldn’t the charge out rate reflect the relevant experience of the tutor?
Then there are the parents. We all want to do the best for our kids, that’s a given. I personally wish that school was enough and no child had to spend extra hours studying in their weekend besides homework. However the reality is that majority parents are looking at advancing or helping their children via tuition. So how does the parent find the right fit for their child?
A close Family friend has been in search for a tutor for her 9 and 11 year old. In her experience, the process has been so distasteful that she has put the activity on the back burner and considers this as the “too hard” basket. From what I can recall(until I lost count), she had 3 reiterations on the process and lost a whole heap of time that she was racing against. Tutors are cancelling, forgetting bookings, constantly changing pricing, applying the one-size fits all model and not investing in understanding the gaps specific to each child before working on a solution. This were some of the frustrations.
I felt that there was a gap in the market and decided to use my skills to develop a platform which connects tutors and parents. I have created a system that puts you in the driver’s seat. You are in control as the tutor or the parent.
TutorsHub provides a platform that allows tutors to manage their clients and payment options whilst empowering parents to have the autonomy of choosing comfortably a tutors that suits their child’s needs. The platform allows likeminded people to share the experience of the service consumed and provide a relevant 5 rating system. Automating a payment system, allows the removal of awkwardness towards collecting funds from a student for services whilst giving the convenience to the parent that never carries the right amount of cash.
I have had a long obsession about empowering the individual to give them autonomy in life. I had to do my part in changing the way the pendulum was swinging and this is tutorHub.com.au. The platform is designed, created, built and supported in Australian. This trend will continue and we strive to make education in Australia great again!
See you there. Your sincerely
